The Dragon Eye Pearlscale is a Chinese fancy goldfish crossing the protruding-eyed Telescope (dragon eye) with the Pearlscale (Pingpong Pearl), whose surface is studded with domed, pearl-like scales. It combines two striking features—bulging eyes and a round, golf-ball-shaped body lined with pearl scales—into a highly individual fish, popular in China and increasingly seen in Japan. The protruding eyes are easily injured and prone to infection, so the layout should avoid sharp decorations and the water must be kept clean. The fish swims slowly with limited vision, so it suits gentle tank mates. Maintain a slightly warmer, stable temperature (roughly 18–26°C) and feed carefully, for example with sinking foods. Delicate and somewhat demanding, it is regarded as a variety for advanced keepers.
