The tricolor burrowing scorpion (Opistophthalmus wahlbergii) is a fossorial scorpionid found in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. GBIF records are dominated by Namibia and South Africa and extend to Botswana, Zimbabwe and Angola. It lives in the dry country around the Kalahari and is also sold as the Kalahari burrowing scorpion. The genus is widely traded and generally hardy, but the animals are nervous; given deep substrate and a properly set up enclosure they stay in their burrows and are seldom seen. Along with O. glabrifrons and O. boehmi this is one of the genus's regularly imported species, and the essentials of keeping it are the same: substrate deep enough to burrow in, a dry surface over slightly damp lower layers, solitary housing, and leaving the finished burrow alone.
