Gromphadorhina grandidieri
A Madagascan hissing cockroach with a vivid mix of black, yellow, orange and red. Nymphs stay black, and the full colour scheme appears only at adulthood. It likes slightly more moisture than other hissers.
Gromphadorhina grandidieri is a large wingless cockroach from Madagascar and one of four species in the genus Gromphadorhina, described by Kirby in 1904. In captivity males reach about 70 mm and females about 62 mm. Its mix of black with yellow, orange and red is unusually vivid for a group of mostly drab insects and is the source of the trade name. Nymphs remain black with faint striping until the final moult, when the full colour scheme is revealed. Keepers report that it appreciates more moisture than other hissing cockroaches while still being drier than most roaches, so give good ventilation with slightly damp substrate. Keep at 26-29 C. All life stages can climb glass, so a sealed lid or a climbing barrier is required.

Keep at 26-29 C. It likes more moisture than other hissers, but ventilate well so the enclosure does not go stale.
All life stages climb glass, so a secure lid or climbing barrier is essential. Provide vertical surfaces with bark or egg crates.
Combine vegetables and fruit with grains or prepared insect food, and add dried hardwood leaves.
No venom and no biting. When disturbed it hisses by forcing air through its abdominal spiracles.
Nymphs stay black and the full colours appear only at the final moult, so colour indicates maturity. Do not house it with other hissing cockroaches, to keep lines separate.
Intermediate. This is an intermediate-level species. Some prior experience and knowledge of environmental management are recommended.
The ideal temperature for Tiger Hissing Cockroach is 26〜29℃. Avoid sudden temperature changes and maintain a stable environment.
The average lifespan of Tiger Hissing Cockroach is 2-4 years. With proper care and nutrition, they can live a long and healthy life.
