The Jericho scorpion (Nebo hierichonticus), also called the common black scorpion, is a diplocentrid scorpion reaching 14 cm in length. Its base colour ranges from light brown or reddish brown to dark brown, with yellowish legs. The pedipalps and chelae are large, while the metasoma is thin, the vesicle oval and the sting itself quite short. It occurs in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Israel, and in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt, living under rocks and in deep self-dug burrows in deserts and arid to semi-arid mountainous country; GBIF records are dominated by Israel. The venom is described as quite toxic, capable of causing haemorrhage and necrosis, but the effect of a sting on humans is almost negligible and no long-term effects are known. There is no established captive temperature figure for this species.
