Klyxum spp.
An encrusting soft coral that puts out short finger-like branches from a thick stalk. The surface is slippery, the colour tan to pink with scattered polyps, and variation in shape and colour makes species identification difficult.
Klyxum is a genus of octocoral soft corals in the family Cladiellidae, order Malacalcyonacea, erected by Alderslade in 2000. It encrusts rock, sending out short finger-like branches from a thick stalk, and colonies stay relatively small. The surface is slippery to the touch, the colour tan to pink, with polyps scattered over the branches. Because shape and colour vary so widely it is sold together with the related genus Cladiella as colt coral or soft finger leather coral, and precise identification to species is difficult. It is zooxanthellate and draws most of its nutrition from photosynthesis. It is easy to keep but decidedly aggressive, and is known to kill Sinularia and Sarcophyton corals in particular, so it should be sited well out of their reach. As a soft coral with no stony skeleton it is not covered by the CITES coral listings.

The ideal temperature for the Klyxum is 24〜26℃.
Origin
Shallow reefs of the Indo-West Pacific
Temperature
24〜26℃
Mainly nutrition from its zooxanthellae; feeding micro-plankton or baby brine shrimp speeds growth.
LiveAquaria lists colt corals as needing moderate to high light; in low light the branches stretch thin and the polyps stop opening.

LiveAquaria gives placement as anywhere in the tank and flow as medium to strong. It is aggressive, so keep it well away from Sinularia and Sarcophyton in particular.
Water 24-26C, specific gravity 1.023-1.025 (salinity 33-35 ppt), pH 8.1-8.4, KH 8-12. Strontium, iodine and trace elements are recommended.
Most of its nutrition comes from photosynthesis. Micro-plankton, baby brine shrimp or foods for filter-feeding invertebrates can be offered as a supplement.
It secretes mucus in transit, so rinse it well in seawater before adding it to the tank. It is aggressive enough to kill other soft corals, so run activated carbon to strip the compounds it releases. Having no stony skeleton, it is not covered by the CITES coral listings.
Beginner. This is a beginner-friendly species. No special equipment or experience is required, and it can be kept successfully with basic care setup.
