The Gloster is a British type canary, bred for form. It exists in two forms: the corona, which carries a neat round crest, and the plain-headed consort, and both are judged separately at shows. The crest is governed by a single gene pair, and pairing two coronas produces a lethal combination, so breeders always pair a corona with a consort. Type canaries range from 11 cm to 23 cm, and the Gloster sits at the small end of that range. Its needs match those of other canaries: a canary-seed-based mix supplemented with greens. It tames well and breeds relatively easily.
