About
Frilled canary is a collective name for type canaries whose breast, flank and back feathers wave and curl, and it covers the Parisian Frill, the Gibber Italicus and the Fiorino Frill among others. The Parisian Frill, the best known, has a standard length of at least 19 cm and makes higher demands on housing, feeding and breeding than other canaries, so it is not recommended for beginners. Outside the breeding season, large flight cages or an aviary with a shelter aid physical development and health, but too many birds together leaves them unable to keep their distance, and boredom leads to feather plucking. The curled feathers shed water poorly and soil easily, so regular bathing and a clean environment are essential.
