About
The Plush Lop combines the short, velvety rex coat with the lop ear, and exists in Standard and Miniature lines. The Standard was developed in Australia in the early 1990s by Christine Toyer from Dwarf Lop x Standard Rex crosses; the Miniature was started in 1995 in the United States by Devie D'anniballe using Holland Lop, Mini Rex and Mini Lop. In Australia and the UK it remains a breed in development working toward British Rabbit Council standardization, while ARBA is unlikely to recognize it because its rules bar new breeds that differ from existing ones only in coat. Temperament is described as playful and friendly, with many individuals tolerating long periods of being held. The short rex coat is easy to maintain, but watch for sore hocks in lines with thin foot fur. In Japan a few breeders offer it as the Mini Plush Lop.
