Carassius auratus var.
Telescope goldfish in panda-like black and white. Chic monochrome beauty is popular. Many lose black coloring with age.
The Panda Telescope (Panda Demekin) is a striking variety of Telescope Eye goldfish whose bold black-and-white coloration evokes the appearance of a giant panda. Young individuals display vivid, high-contrast black and white markings, but a notable challenge in keeping this variety is color retention: as the fish matures, the black pigmentation tends to fade to silvery white. Maintaining the black coloration requires clean water, appropriate lighting, and occasional sun exposure, though genetic factors play a major role and perfect color retention is not always achievable. Like all Telescope varieties, the prominent eyes are fragile and require a smooth, hazard-free aquarium environment. Tank size of at least 45 liters is recommended, with gentle water flow and no sharp decorations. Panda Telescopes are gentle, slow swimmers best kept with similarly docile varieties.
