One of finest ranchu. Treasure of Japanese goldfish with improvement history from Edo period.
The Ranchu Edonishiki is one of the most prized varieties within the Ranchu lineage, combining the Ranchu's egg-shaped, dorsal-finless body with the vibrant nacreous calico (tricolor) coloration of the Edonishiki. Refined over generations of selective breeding in Tokyo (Edo), this variety represents a pinnacle of Japanese goldfish breeding tradition. Like the Ranchu, it is appreciated primarily from above, where the rounded body silhouette and the unique calico pattern—red, white, black, and pale blue tones across translucent scales—can be fully evaluated. Each individual's color pattern is completely unique. Show evaluation combines Ranchu criteria (body symmetry, wen quality, tail angle) with the beauty of the calico coloration. Traditional keeping follows Ranchu practices: shallow round bowls, minimal water flow, neutral water quality, and the option of green water culture to enhance coloration depth. Careful feeding to prevent swim bladder disorder is essential.
