A goldfish combining pearl scales with head growth. Popular breed with pearl shimmer and luxurious wen.
The Crown Pearlscale (Gaotou Zhenzhu or High-Head Pearlscale) combines the lustrous, dome-shaped raised scales of the Pearlscale with a wen (head growth) similar to that of the Oranda, resulting in an unusually luxurious-looking goldfish. Both the pearl-like shimmer of the scales and the fleshy head crown contribute to the breed's ornate character. Like all Pearlscale varieties, the Crown Pearlscale has a near-spherical body, double fantail fins, and is highly susceptible to swim bladder disorder (buoyancy problems). Small amounts of easily digestible sinking food, stable water temperature of 18–25°C, and minimal water flow are essential for maintaining health. The wen must be monitored for bacterial infection, and the pearlescent scales should be protected from physical damage—once flattened, they cannot be restored. Tank size of 40 liters or more with low-flow filtration is recommended.
