Distinctive goldfish with pompom-like narial bouquets on nose. Chinese name Rongqiu. Charming and endearing face.
The Hanafusa, known in Chinese as Rongqiu, is a Chinese goldfish variety distinguished by the pompom-like fleshy growths that develop around the nostrils, giving the fish an endearingly quirky facial appearance. The size and symmetry of these narial bouquets are the primary aesthetic feature of the breed. Body shape is moderately streamlined with a bifurcated fantail, and individuals may or may not have a dorsal fin. Coloration ranges from red and white to sarasa and calico. The narial bouquets are extremely delicate—filter intakes must be covered with sponge guards, sharp decorations must be removed, and rough substrates should be avoided to prevent snagging and tearing. Once damaged, the pompoms may not fully recover. Hanafusa are gentle fish best kept in low-hazard tanks of at least 45 liters with neutral water conditions.
