The Pearlscale Pompom is a Chinese fancy goldfish combining the Pearlscale (Pingpong Pearl)—with its domed, pearl-like scales—and nasal bouquets (pompoms) at the snout. The pairing of pearl scales arrayed over a golf-ball-round body with soft, endearing pompoms is wonderfully cute and popular among hobbyists. The round body makes it a slow swimmer, and both the delicate pearl scales and pompoms are easily damaged, so the layout should avoid sharp decorations and filter intakes should be fitted with sponge guards. With limited vision and swimming ability, it should be kept only with gentle tank mates and fed carefully. Maintain a slightly warmer, stable temperature (roughly 18–26°C) and keep the water clean for good health. Somewhat demanding, it is regarded as a variety for advanced keepers.
