About
The Oriental Longhair belongs to the Siamese breed group, created in England in the 1950s by crossing Siamese with Russian Blues, British Shorthairs, Abyssinians and domestic cats; the non-pointed descendants became the modern Orientals, later expanded in the United States with more colors than any other breed. It is a svelte, fine-boned yet muscular medium-sized cat draped in a silky semi-long coat. Lively, talkative and intensely people-oriented, it follows its family everywhere, stays playful for life and does poorly when left alone for long periods. Grooming is easy with weekly combing, while progressive retinal atrophy and amyloidosis are the known hereditary concerns.
