Oryzias latipes
A line fixing the persimmon-orange colour that appears in Yozakura: a black-and-orange body with semi-transparent scales and glitter. One of the most popular colour forms of Yozakura.
Kakiiro Yozakura is the trade name of a black-and-orange semi-transparent-scaled lamé medaka; the Kairyo Medaka Web Zukan gives no breeder or year. It fixes, by selection and line-breeding, the persimmon colour that appears in Yozakura, whose colours vary widely, and is a popular form. Look for a two-tone black and persimmon-orange body with aurora (semi-transparent) scales and glitter. Whereas Yozakura produces many colours from one line, this one has been selected for the persimmon form, and its strong orange separates it from other Yozakura colours.

Ornamental medaka are cultivars of Oryzias latipes. Not listed in the CITES Appendices (checked on Species+) and not regulated under Japan's Invasive Alien Species Act. Japan's wild medaka (Oryzias latipes and O. sakaizumii) are listed as Vulnerable on the Ministry of the Environment Red List and differ genetically by region. Releasing ornamental medaka into rivers, ponds or rice paddies causes genetic pollution through hybridisation with wild fish, so never release them.

Omnivore (floating prepared foods, live foods such as daphnia)
Glitter and persimmon colour are mostly enjoyed from above; sunny outdoor containers are said to help colour.
Being from Yozakura, other colours can appear among siblings; choose breeders with strong persimmon colour and plenty of glitter.
Peaceful and fine with other medaka of similar size. To keep the variety's traits, do not let it breed with other varieties in the same container.
Give floating food that is eaten within 3-5 minutes: at least twice a day in summer, once a day in spring and autumn, and little or none outdoors in winter.
Never release ornamental medaka into rivers, ponds or paddies; hybridisation causes genetic pollution of wild medaka.
