Beniazami medaka is an improved variety characterized by vivid deep crimson body color reminiscent of azami (thistle) flowers. True to its name, the deep purple-crimson hue of thistle flowers is beautifully expressed in the body color, the deepest crimson among red medaka varieties. Developed through selective breeding from Youkihi and Koutei lineages toward deep crimson, color becomes even more vivid in sunlight. Regular feeding of carotenoid- and astaxanthin-rich food maintains and enhances body color. Dark containers best showcase the deep crimson. Hardy in 5–30°C, neutral to slightly alkaline water. Selecting deeply colored individuals for breeding maintains and deepens the crimson lineage. Easy to breed. Peaceful and community-friendly.
