The Broadtail Ryukin is an upscale Ryukin variety whose broad, large tail fins spread out in a gentle fan. Its greatest appeal, viewed from the side, is the way the tail drapes and spreads elegantly like a skirt, which—together with the Ryukin's classic high back and rounded body—gives a refined, showy impression. The large tail is beautiful but can burden swimming and is easily damaged, so ample water volume and a fin-friendly layout are preferable. Keeping the body and tail beautiful requires appropriate feeding amounts, temperature control, and clean water. House it in a tank of 60 liters or more with strong filtration and regular water changes. Being a gentle swimmer, it pairs best with other calm, round-bodied varieties and should not be kept with active fish. At shows, the spread and elegance of its tail are valued.
