Distinctive raised pearl-like scales and ping-pong ball round body. Extremely popular for its cute appearance.
The Pearlscale, known in Japan as Chinshurin (珍珠鱗), is a Chinese-developed fancy goldfish immediately recognizable by its raised, dome-shaped scales that gleam like individual pearls arranged across its distinctly round body. The contrast between the spherical body and the lustrous scales creates a uniquely ornate appearance that has made Pearlscales popular worldwide. They have a doubled fantail-type finnage and come in a wide variety of colors. Pearlscales are slow, docile swimmers best kept in spacious, low-flow tanks of at least 40 liters. Their globular body shape makes them highly susceptible to swim bladder disorder (buoyancy issues), so feeding small amounts of easily digestible, sinking food is essential. Damaged scales will not regain their dome shape, so care should be taken to avoid sharp decorations in the tank. A slightly warmer temperature range of 20–26°C is recommended.
