The tropical fish category on Bree-Choku lets you welcome a wide range of freshwater fish — guppies, bettas, corydoras, tetras and more — directly from the breeders and aquarists who raised them. With fewer steps in distribution, you can check each fish's condition and the water it was kept in before deciding. Even beginners can choose fish suited to their setup after learning the basics of tank cycling, water temperature, and tank-mate compatibility.
1Cycle the tank and establish beneficial bacteria
Before adding tropical fish, the tank must be matured so that filter bacteria can break down toxic ammonia and nitrite. Cycling generally takes several weeks. Run the filter beforehand and add fish only once water quality is stable to greatly reduce early problems.

White spot disease, marked by white dots on the body, often appears after temperature swings or transport stress. Early detection, careful temperature control, and treatment when needed are key to recovery. Observing newly welcomed fish for a while before moving them to the main tank is reassuring.
7Estimate startup and ongoing costs
Beyond initial gear — tank, filter, heater, lighting, substrate — there are ongoing costs for food, water conditioners, and electricity. Larger tanks keep water more stable but cost more to equip. Estimate the equipment and monthly costs before welcoming fish.
