A thin plate-shaped SPS coral from deep waters. Can be placed at tank bottom as it grows in low light.
Leptoseris is a genus of plating stony corals (family Agariciidae) native to deeper reef zones of the Indo-Pacific, typically found at 10–100 m depth. Their thin, calcite laminae spread in light-harvesting formations and display subdued tones of brown, green, purple, and pink—some specimens exhibiting striking fluorescence under actinic light. Their deep-water origin grants exceptional tolerance for low light, making them among the rare SPS corals that thrive at 50–150 PAR. Gentle to moderate indirect flow is preferred; direct turbulent flow can damage the delicate skeleton. Stable parameters (24–26°C, KH 8–9, Ca 400–440 ppm) are essential. Growth is slow, and fragging requires care due to plate fragility, placing Leptoseris firmly in the intermediate-to-advanced category.
