An SPS coral with delicate branching like a bird's nest. Beautiful pink and purple colors are popular.
Birds nest coral (Seriatopora hystrix and related species) forms delicate colonies of extremely slender branches (1–3 mm diameter) that intertwine to create a bird's nest silhouette. Distributed across shallow reefs of the Indo-Pacific, it displays attractive pink, cream, and purple coloration. Successful culture requires SPS-grade conditions: strong lighting (250–400 PAR), moderate to strong turbulent flow, and stable calcium (400–450 ppm) and alkalinity (8–9 dKH). It is more forgiving than Acropora, making it a recommended entry point into SPS keeping. Fast growth allows easy fragging, but detritus accumulation within the dense branches demands attentive flow management.
