An LPS coral with rich colorful variations. Highly popular among collectors with many high-value specimens.
Acan coral (genera Acanthastrea, Micromussa, family Lobophylliidae) produces fleshy, densely arranged polyps in an extraordinary range of colors—reds, greens, oranges, purples, and complex multicolor patterns—that make ultra-grade specimens among the most highly valued corals in the reef aquarium trade. Distributed across Indo-Pacific reef slopes, it is relatively straightforward to maintain under low to moderate lighting (100–200 PAR) with gentle flow; intense light or direct current causes retraction and bleaching. Target feeding one to two times weekly dramatically enhances coloration and colony growth, and fragging is easy, enabling hobbyists to propagate prized color morphs.
