A canary breed with red body color. Attractive vivid red different from usual canary yellow.
The red factor canary is a colour-bred variety of domestic canary selectively developed to express red and orange pigmentation through dietary carotenoids. Its striking colour results from the introduction of red siskin genetics in the early 20th century. Unlike typical yellow canaries, its colour must be maintained through a diet supplemented with carotenoid-rich colour food, particularly during the moult. Males are talented singers; females rarely vocalise.
