The Red Sea Sailfin Tang, also called Desjardini Sailfin Tang, is a close relative of the Sailfin Tang native to the Indian Ocean and Red Sea. Its grey body is marked with dark bands and fine yellow lines, while a tall dorsal and anal fin and a blue tail dotted with white spots give it an elegant look. Leaning toward a herbivorous diet, it grazes readily on algae and seaweed and is often valued as a natural algae grazer, though it can be somewhat territorial. Since adults reach up to 40 cm, a spacious tank of 680 liters or more with plenty of open swimming room is recommended. Considered suited to intermediate keepers, it does best with owners already comfortable managing water quality and feeding.

關於紅海高鰭刺尾魚
The Red Sea Sailfin Tang is a striking Indian Ocean and Red Sea relative of the Sailfin Tang, with banded grey coloring and a spotted blue tail. Growing to 40 cm, it needs a 680L+ tank and suits intermediate marine keepers.
迎接紅海高鰭刺尾魚前需要了解的7件事
1A Spacious Tank Is Essential
Adults can reach up to 40 cm, so a tank of 680 liters or more with ample open space is needed. Choose a tank size based on its adult size, not just how it looks when small.
2Territorial and Assertive
As a relative of the Sailfin Tang, it can be territorial toward similarly shaped fish, especially its own kind. Keeping multiple tangs of the same or related species requires extra care.
3Mainly Feeds on Algae and Seaweed
This tang has a strongly herbivorous diet and readily grazes on algae, making it useful for algae control. Offering dried nori or seaweed-based flakes regularly helps keep it in good condition.
4Prefers Open Swimming Room
Beyond rockwork crevices, it favors open areas where it can swim freely across the tank. When designing the layout, leave clear swimming lanes rather than filling the space with rockwork.
5Stable Water Quality and Flow Matter
It prefers well-oxygenated water with steady flow, so maintaining stable water quality is important. Avoid sudden changes in parameters and keep up with regular water changes.
6Introduce Once the Tank Is Established
It can be sensitive to environmental changes, so it's best introduced once the tank has fully cycled and water parameters are stable. Take time with careful acclimation when adding it.
7Watch Closely After Introduction
Since the stress of a new environment can affect its condition, watch its appetite, swimming behavior, and skin closely right after introduction. If anything seems off, check water parameters and consult a specialist if needed.
