屬性
The Titan Triggerfish (Balistoides viridescens) is a large member of the Balistidae family, widely distributed across the tropical coral reefs of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its body is adorned with a bluish scale pattern and a vivid yellow-rimmed mouth that makes it instantly recognizable. The intricate markings become more pronounced as the fish matures. In the wild, it uses its powerful teeth to crush sea urchins and crustaceans, and is known to aggressively charge divers near its nesting site during the breeding season. In captivity, this territorial instinct remains strong, yet many individuals learn to recognize their keeper and approach the front of the tank—a quality that makes them surprisingly engaging. For experienced marine hobbyists seeking a bold, long-lived centerpiece fish, the Titan Triggerfish delivers unmatched character.
1Best Kept Alone
Picasso Triggerfish are highly aggressive and will often chase or attack both tankmates and other species. Single-specimen keeping is strongly recommended, and if mixing species, provide a large tank with ample hiding spots.
2Large Tank Required
Adults can reach around 30 cm, requiring a tank of at least 200 liters. Insufficient swimming space can increase stress and aggression. Plan for the fish's adult size when choosing your aquarium.
3Beware of Strong Teeth
This fish has powerful teeth capable of crushing coral, shrimp, and shellfish. It may also bite equipment, air tubing, or rearrange rockwork, so take care with the placement of hardware inside the tank.
4Carnivorous Diet
This species is carnivorous, preferring crustaceans, mollusks, and sea urchins. Frozen shrimp, fish fillets, and high-quality pellets are suitable foods. They learn quickly and often beg for food when they recognize their keeper, making feeding relatively straightforward.
5Water Quality Management
Optimal water temperature is 24–27°C, with specific gravity of 1.023–1.026. Despite their hardy constitution, they can be sensitive to poor water quality, so a powerful filtration system and regular water changes are essential.
6Not Reef-Safe

Care difficulty, lifespan, size and diet — all basics covered.
Picasso Triggerfish will readily consume corals, anemones, and invertebrates such as shrimp and crabs, making them incompatible with reef tanks. A fish-only setup is the most suitable environment.
7Bold Individual Personality
Individual personality varies greatly—some fish become comfortable with their keeper quickly and approach the glass eagerly, while others remain wary for extended periods. Careful selection and close observation after introduction are important for a positive experience.
