About
Echinopora (family Merulinidae) is widely distributed across Indo-Pacific reef slopes and lagoons, displaying encrusting, foliose, and plating growth forms. Small star-shaped corallites are densely arranged across the surface, with greens, browns, and fluorescent green coloration. The representative species Echinopora lamellosa forms broad, thin foliose colonies that create distinctive structure. It is relatively easy to keep, tolerating moderate lighting and moderate flow. It grows quickly and spreads as encrusting or foliose sheets, so provide ample space. It may extend sweeper tentacles and compete with neighboring corals, so allow spacing. Feeding once or twice weekly promotes growth. Hardy and easy to frag, it is useful for building reef-tank structure.
