Many genetic diseases are recessive, so carrier parents appear completely healthy in appearance. However, when both parents are carriers, there is a 25-50% chance that affected puppies will be born. Without DNA testing, such risks remain unknown until breeding actually occurs.

Reading Test Results and Utilizing Them in Breeding Plans

DNA testing does not cover all genetic diseases. Hip and elbow dysplasia are multifactorial (polygenic) conditions that are difficult to assess through DNA alone and must be combined with X-ray evaluation.
