Hairball (Trichobezoar)

關於這種疾病

Ingested hair accumulates in the stomach during grooming and is usually expelled through vomiting or retching. While typically benign, large hair masses can occasionally cause intestinal obstruction.

主要症狀

• Retching or vomiting (expelling a hair mass)
• Regularly producing vomit containing long hair
• Constipation or reduced stool volume
• Reduced appetite or lethargy (if obstruction occurs)

• Ingestion of hair through excessive grooming
• Increased shedding during seasonal coat changes
• Hair length and coat volume (higher risk in long-haired breeds)
• Reduced gastrointestinal motility (senior cats)

預防（飼養環境與日常照護）

Regular brushing to remove loose fur, hairball-formula foods or supplements, and encouraging adequate water intake. Thorough grooming is especially important for long-haired breeds.

Veterinarians assess for obstruction through physical examination and X-rays. Obstruction may be treated with endoscopy or surgery. Mild cases may be managed with dietary changes and guidance to support intestinal motility.
