A condition of chronically elevated blood sugar due to insufficient insulin production or action. Common in obese, middle-aged male cats; with proper management quality of life can be maintained, but the disease is life-threatening without treatment.

• Increased thirst and urination
• Weight loss despite a good appetite
• Weakness in the hind legs (diabetic neuropathy)
• Lethargy and low energy

主要原因

• Obesity or excess body weight
• Aging (primarily middle-aged and senior cats)
• Long-term use of certain medications such as steroids
• Chronic pancreatitis or other endocrine diseases

Maintain a healthy weight (prevent obesity), provide a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet, and include blood glucose testing in regular health check-ups.
