Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) progressively damages the immune system, leading to opportunistic infections and chronic disease. Transmission occurs mainly through bite wounds; FIV does not infect humans.

- Recurrent stomatitis and gingivitis
- Chronic weight loss
- Recurring respiratory or digestive infections
- Neurological signs (late stage)

- Infection with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV)
- Bite wounds from infected cats
- Outdoor territorial fighting
- Vertical transmission from mother to kitten (rare)

Keep cats strictly indoors to eliminate bite wound risk, test and quarantine new cats before introduction in multi-cat households, and spay/neuter to reduce territorial aggression.
