Adequate cage size
Choose a cage where the bird can fully extend its wings with room to spare. For small species, aim for at least 50cm wide. Metal cages are easier to keep clean. Choose one with horizontal bars for easier movement.
Free-flight time
Let your bird fly freely outside the cage in a safe room for a set time each day. Lack of exercise causes stress. Be careful about windows, fans, and doors to prevent escape.
Balanced diet
A seed-only diet is nutritionally unbalanced. Use pellets as the main diet and supplement with fresh vegetables (komatsuna, bok choy, etc.). Never give onions, avocado, or chocolate — these are toxic to birds.
Temperature and humidity management
For most small parrots, 20-25°C is ideal. Sudden temperature changes can cause illness. Be especially diligent about heating in winter and heatstroke prevention in summer.
