Even among the same "Leopard Gecko," assessment varies significantly depending on morph type, color expression intensity, combo morph rarity, bloodline (line), and health status. In the reptile collector market, price differences are driven by both morph value and health status.

What determines the price

Morph type and color expression intensity
High
A morph in reptiles refers to a genetic variant of coloration and pattern. Combo morphs (combinations of multiple morphs) and rarer morphs receive higher valuations. Note, however, that morph names indicate trait tendencies and do not constitute a quality guarantee.
Bloodline (line) and breeder reliability
High
Individuals from renowned breeder lines or established breeding lines tend to have higher stability of traits and more reliable health management.
Health status (eye brightness, weight, skin)
High
Health status is the most critical aspect of specimen evaluation, including bright, clear eyes, weight appropriate for age, and absence of shedding problems. Regardless of how rare a morph may be, health issues significantly reduce its valuation.
Sex and breeding track record
Medium
For breeding purposes, females tend to command higher value. Individuals with proven breeding track records have even greater reliability.
Size and age in months
Medium
Ease of care varies depending on whether the specimen is a juvenile (baby), subadult, or adult. Individuals with a stable feeding history and consistent shedding records carry lower risk.

Appraisal points

Verify morph expression intensity

Good:: The morph's characteristics (body color, pattern, eye color, etc.) are clearly expressed, and the individual stands out with distinctive breed identity.
Caution:: Even animals with a morph name may show weak expression. It is important to examine the actual expression rather than relying solely on the morph name.

Confirm health status

Good:: Eyes have brightness and luster, and the body is firm and well-built. There is no incomplete shedding, injuries, or abscess. Body weight is appropriate for age.
Caution:: Thinness, protruding bones, cloudy eyes, or abscess around the mouth are signs of health problems.

Confirm feeding history and environmental adaptation.

Good:: An individual with a stable feeding history over multiple feedings and well-acclimated to the captive environment.
Caution:: Animals without a feeding record or those immediately post-transport should be evaluated with consideration for the stress period.
