What determines the price

• Head lump development and uniformity.

  High

  When the fleshy hood develops evenly on both sides and covers the entire head, it receives higher marks. Development of the fleshy hood is significantly influenced by rearing temperature and feeding management.

• The curved grace of the back

  High

  When the spinal line forms a smooth curve with no collapse or roughness, it meets show standards. The back's contour reflects both the individual's genetic qualities and the breeder's husbandry skill.

• Tail form evenness and stability

  High

  The tail form—whether four-lobed (yontsu) or cherry blossom (sakura)—spreads symmetrically on both sides according to breed standard and remains stable. Tail form is genetically determined and influenced by the lineage of parent fish.

• Body form balance (body length-to-body height ratio)

  Medium

  The ratio of body height (depth) to body length should convey a full, substantial appearance characteristic of the breed. Fish with good body depth and a well-rounded form are favored over elongated individuals.

Appraisal points

Assess fleshy hood development

Good:

The fleshy hood spreads evenly across the entire head and develops symmetrically on both sides.

Caution:

Development on one side only, scarring, or hardening of the fleshy hood may indicate husbandry conditions or health issues.

Assess the back's curvature

Good:

The spinal line curves smoothly and shows no collapse when viewed from the front or side.

Caution:

A back that is too steep, straight, or wavy at any point falls outside show standards.

Assess tail form evenness

Good:

The caudal fins spread evenly on both sides according to breed standard and show no collapse.

Caution:

Tails that tilt to one side, are too short, or have deformed shapes receive lower evaluation.
