Agave geminiflora
A beautiful agave with many narrow densely packed leaves with threads. Radial form like green fireworks.
Agave geminiflora is a striking species confined to a limited area in Nayarit, Mexico. It produces hundreds to over a thousand narrow, thread-like leaves just 1–2 mm wide that radiate outward in a perfect sphere, with white fibers peeling from the margins. The effect resembles a burst of green fireworks or a dense botanical pompon—one of the most visually distinctive silhouettes in the genus. Mature plants reach 40–80 cm in diameter. Growth is relatively slow, and unlike many agaves it typically does not produce offsets, developing as a solitary rosette. Full sun is preferred. Because the densely packed leaves can trap moisture and encourage rot, good air circulation is important, and watering should be conservative. Use a fast-draining soil mix. Cold tolerance is around 5°C—protect from frost. Its rarity in the wild raises conservation concerns, and cultivated specimens are not as widely available as many other agave species. It is considered one of the defining members of the 'thread agave' group alongside A. filifera and A. leopoldii.
