An early David Austin masterpiece. Large cupped apricot to peach-pink blooms with strong fruity fragrance. Good repeat bloomer, hardy, and easy to grow. Can be trained as a climber.
An early masterpiece from David Austin (UK), introduced in 1985 and named after Abraham Darby, a pioneer of the Industrial Revolution. Its large cupped blooms — 10–12cm across — transition from rich apricot to peach-pink, carrying a strong, complex fragrance of fruit and Tea rose notes that is consistently among the most admired of all English Roses. Repeat-blooming is reliable and generous across the season. The plant grows to 1.5–2m as a shrub or can be trained as a climber to over 3m in warmer climates, making it suited to fences and arches. Disease resistance is good. The flexible, arching canes benefit from support or training, as heavy blooms can cause shoots to bow; careful staking or wall training makes the most of the plant's generous display.
