1. 1No dorsal fin

   The egg-shaped body without a dorsal fin gives the Tanho a different swimming look from finned goldfish. Its slow, graceful movement is part of the appeal, but strong currents and cluttered layouts can be a burden, so choose a calm tank with room to swim.

2. 2Gentle tank mates

   Because the Tanho moves slowly, fast swimmers or aggressive fish can outcompete it at feeding time or chase it. If you keep tank mates, calm goldfish of a similar body type are the safer choice. Watch closely to make sure nobody is nipping at the long tail.

   The Tanho is rated as suited to intermediate keepers. It suits people who can watch water quality and feeding amounts and observe the fish every day. Some previous experience with goldfish makes it easier to handle care calmly after bringing one home.

   The long tail is the highlight of the Tanho, but it is also easy to damage. Check that sharp rocks, decorations, and filter intakes cannot snag it, and look regularly for splits or cloudy, whitish areas on the tail.

   Goldfish produce a lot of waste and foul the water quickly. Set up good filtration, change water regularly, and avoid sudden shifts in water quality. Using water at a matching temperature for water changes helps reduce stress on the fish.

6. 6Avoid overfeeding

   With its round, egg-shaped body, overfeeding can sometimes lead to health trouble. Feed small portions, remove leftovers promptly, and watch for changes in appetite or body shape. If something seems off for a while, ask an experienced keeper or a specialist.

7. 7Before you bring one home

   Set up the tank, filter, and aeration ahead of time and let the water settle. After arrival, acclimate the fish carefully to the water temperature and keep it apart from other fish for a while to observe it.
