Grain Mite Infestation
🔎 依症狀查找
關於這種疾病
Rapid proliferation of grain mites (Tyrophagus spp. and related species) in the substrate or adult enclosure, colonizing the beetle's body surface and fouling the environment. Particularly common in high-humidity, organic-rich substrate conditions.
主要症狀
- Numerous tiny white mites are attached to the beetle's body, especially around joints and abdominal segments
- Dense white powdery mite clusters are visible on the inner walls and lid of the enclosure
- The adult beetle remains on the substrate surface and moves restlessly without burrowing
- The beetle moves continuously due to mite irritation
主要原因
- Excessively high substrate moisture (oversaturated conditions)
- Use of aged substrate or re-fermenting leaf compost
- Poor ventilation causing hot, humid, and stagnant conditions inside the enclosure
- Introduction of mite-contaminated substrate or materials from external sources
預防(飼養環境與日常照護)
Keep substrate moisture at the appropriate level (holds shape when squeezed but releases no drips) and replace it regularly every 2–3 months. Choose well-ventilated enclosures and prevent excessive heat or humidity. Consider freezing new substrate at −20°C for 48 hours before use to eliminate any mite eggs.
