Insects & Arthropods

關於這種疾病

A condition in which a mated female fails to lay eggs or produces significantly fewer eggs than expected. Husbandry conditions, individual health, and age are key contributing factors. In severe cases, retained eggs may place significant burden on the individual.

主要症狀

  • No egg-laying behavior is observed over an extended period after mating
  • The abdomen appears swollen and distended, suggesting retained eggs
  • The female gnaws or digs at the egg-laying log or substrate but does not lay eggs
  • Decreased activity and loss of appetite may accompany the condition

主要原因

  • Appropriate egg-laying material (log hardness and substrate type) has not been provided
  • Temperature or humidity deviates from the species-specific optimal conditions for oviposition
  • Poor physical condition of the female (sub-adult, aged, or nutritionally deficient individual)
  • Mating was incomplete or fertilization did not occur

預防(飼養環境與日常照護)

Prepare a species-appropriate breeding setup (egg-laying log type, substrate depth, temperature and humidity) before introducing the female. Ensure the female is in good condition by providing high-protein insect jelly prior to the breeding period. Select egg-laying logs of the appropriate hardness for the species and process them with the correct moisture treatment.

專賣店能做哪些處理?

Consulting an insect specialty shop or breeder is the most practical approach to oviposition failure. Expert knowledge on species-specific breeding setup configuration, egg-laying log selection, and temperature management can increase the chances of successful egg-laying.
