Mat Spoilage-Induced Anorexia

關於這種疾病
A condition in which beetles refuse food or decline to burrow into substrate due to gases or heat generated by spoiled or re-fermenting substrate. Particularly common during summer management of adult beetles.
主要症狀
- The adult beetle remains on the substrate surface rather than burrowing
- The beetle refuses food or shows a marked decrease in food consumption
- The substrate emits a fermentation odor (alcohol or sour smell)
- The temperature inside the enclosure is elevated due to heat from re-fermentation
主要原因
- Aged substrate has begun re-fermenting
- Excessive moisture content has triggered anaerobic fermentation
- High ambient temperatures have accelerated substrate deterioration
- Long-term failure to replace the substrate has led to quality degradation
預防(飼養環境與日常照護)
Replace substrate regularly, approximately every 2 to 3 months. During summer, pay close attention to temperature management as heat accelerates substrate deterioration; consider housing beetles in a cool, dark location or using cooling packs as needed. Maintain substrate moisture so it holds its shape when squeezed but releases no drips.

For anorexia related to substrate deterioration, consulting an insect specialty shop or breeder provides the most practical advice on appropriate substrate type, moisture level, and replacement frequency. Expert guidance on reviewing the husbandry temperature range is also beneficial.
