Single-petaled vivid red blooms with yellow eye on a climbing form. Simple but stunning in clusters. Strong repeat-blooming with excellent cold hardiness and disease resistance. A staple for fences and arches.
Bred by Meilland (France) in 1957, 'Cocktail' is a vigorous modern shrub rose named for its vivid, party-bright coloring: single blooms display scarlet-red petals surrounding a bold yellow eye, a striking contrast that lightens to pink as the flower ages. Clusters of blooms appear repeatedly from spring through autumn, providing long-season color. Growing to 1.5–2m as a shrub or over 3m when trained as a climber, it adapts well to fences and walls. Disease resistance and cold hardiness are both good, making it a low-maintenance choice. The open, single flowers are particularly attractive to pollinators. Undemanding as to soil type provided sunlight is adequate. Attractive red hips follow the late-season flowers, extending the plant's ornamental value into winter.
