Phalaenopsis schilleriana
A species Phalaenopsis with silver-mottled leaves and pink flowers in cascading sprays.
Phalaenopsis schilleriana is a species orchid native to tropical rainforests across the Philippines. Its leaves are beautifully adorned with silver-gray marbling on the upper surface and purple-tinted undersides. The pale to deep pink flowers, 5–8 cm across, are produced in large, freely branching sprays that can bear more than a hundred blooms simultaneously, accompanied by a sweet fragrance. Flowering occurs from winter to spring (December–April). Cultivation requires warm temperatures (20–30°C), bright indirect light, high humidity (60–80%), and a bark or sphagnum medium. The combination of ornamental foliage and spectacular multi-flowered sprays makes it one of the most prized Phalaenopsis species.
