About
Euphorbia primulifolia is endemic to limestone areas of southern Madagascar. As its name suggests (primulifolia = primrose-leaved), the distinctive rounded, wavy leaves resemble those of a primrose, creating an unusual appearance among euphorbias. The flat caudex is exposed above the soil and leaves emerge in a direct rosette arrangement. Flowers are small and inconspicuous. Damaged tissue exudes toxic white latex. Growth is very slow. Bright direct to indirect light and extremely porous soil are appropriate. Restrained watering during growth and complete winter drought, with temperatures maintained above 10°C, are essential. Its compact form and distinctive leaf shape make it an essential species in any collection of small Malagasy euphorbias.
