A Madagascar Euphorbia with zebra-patterned trunk, rare and highly popular.
Euphorbia guillaumiana is a rare Malagasy endemic distinguished by the striking zebra-like striped patterning on its cylindrical trunk—a feature unique within the genus and the primary source of its high collector value. The trunk swells into a cylindrical caudex, and the bold horizontal banding is ornamental in its own right. Growth is slow and specimens are extremely difficult to obtain, commanding premium prices. Leaves are small and the flowers are typical small yellowish-green euphorbia cyathia. Damaged tissue exudes toxic white latex. Full sun to bright indirect light, extremely porous soil, restrained watering during growth, and complete winter drought are required. It is highly sensitive to cold and overwatering, necessitating indoor winter care above 10°C. The unique zebra patterning and extreme rarity place this species among the most coveted euphorbias in the caudex world.
