What determines the price

• Branch and skeleton coloration and fluorescence.

  High

  The more vivid the color of the branches and skeleton (green, blue, purple, red, etc.), the higher the aesthetic value. Specimens with strong fluorescent coloration are particularly popular.

• Small polyp extension state.

  High

  The more evenly the small polyps are extended, the better the health condition. If polyps remain closed for an extended period, there is often an underlying problem.

• Branch density and growth pattern.

  Medium

  Branch density and shape (tabular, umbrella-shaped, columnar, etc.) affect the maturity of the colony.

• Aquaculture (captive-bred) or wild-collected.

  Medium

  Captive-bred specimens have stable adaptation to artificial environments, and the difference in handling difficulty compared with wild-collected specimens can affect evaluation.

Appraisal points

Verify coloration and absence of bleaching.

Good:

Vivid coloration is uniformly displayed throughout the branches, and no bleaching is visible.

Caution:

Any bleaching (skeleton visible through the tissue) is a sign of declining condition and may indicate risk of infection spread.

Verify polyp extension state.

Good:

Small polyps are generally open throughout, and the branch surface appears fluffy.

Caution:

If polyps do not open at all or excessive mucus is present, transport damage or illness may be possible.

Check the branch shape and damage.

Good:

Branch shape is intact with minimal breakage or chipping.

Caution:

Caution is needed if branches show extensive breakage or unnatural damage.
