Mehina medaka is an elegant improved variety with pale pink body color accented with orange-red highlights, named after the female doll (Mehina, the lady court doll) in traditional Japanese Hinamatsuri festival doll sets. Its delicate, refined coloring evokes the wabi-sabi Japanese aesthetic and is particularly popular for its harmony with the Hinamatsuri (Girls' Day) atmosphere. Many individuals carry transparent-scale traits, adding a translucent, ephemeral beauty. White containers with top-view observation best showcase the pale pink and orange-red combination. Hardy in 5–30°C, neutral to slightly alkaline water. Carotenoid-containing food maintains the orange-red accents.
