The chevron tang (Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis) is a surgeonfish of the genus Ctenochaetus found across the Pacific and especially around Hawaii. Juveniles display a stunning bright-orange ground color overlaid with chevron-shaped black lines, while adults mature into a more subdued olive-to-blackish coloration. Equipped with fine comb-like teeth, it is a detritivore that rasps detritus and microalgae from rock and live-rock surfaces, helping to control algae and keep the aquarium clean. Ample swimming space and a reliable supply of algae-based food are key to successful husbandry.
