Bristol Shubunkin

The Bristol Shubunkin is a variety of Shubunkin developed in Bristol, England, distinguished from the London Shubunkin by its significantly larger, rounded, heart-shaped tail fins—a feature that is the focal point of this breed's aesthetic. Like all Shubunkin, it has calico nacreous coloration across a wide spectrum of colors, with vivid blue individuals being especially prized. The Bristol Shubunkin retains the single-tailed, streamlined body of its Japanese ancestor and is an active, energetic swimmer well-suited to outdoor ponds or large indoor aquariums. It is cold-hardy, adaptable to 5–30°C, and hardy enough for year-round outdoor keeping. Due to its vigorous nature and appetite, it should not be housed with slow fancy goldfish. A spacious tank of 60 liters or more—or an outdoor pond—with quality filtration allows this breed to display its full swimming elegance and the beauty of its distinctive tail.
