狮子头兔是比利时培育的相对较新的兔品种，体长25～30厘米，体重1.3～1.7千克的小型种。头部周围称为"鬃毛"的长毛（羊毛领）是最大的特征，具有狮子般独特的外观。分为单层和双层两种类型。性格活泼有朝气，好奇心旺盛。多数个体性格温顺，易与饲养者亲近，加上紧凑的体型，受欢迎度不断上升。美容护理很重要，特别是鬃毛部分容易打结，需要每周刷毛2～3次以上。换毛期需要每天护理。食物以提摩西牧草为主食，配合专用颗粒饲料和蔬菜。笼子宽度需60厘米以上，并确保每日足够的活动时间。适宜温度为18～25℃。易患疾病有毛球症、牙齿不正常咬合和消化迟缓。寿命为8～10年。
