Kiftsgate

A Rosa filipes selection discovered in the garden of Kiftsgate Court in Gloucestershire, England, 'Kiftsgate' is among the most vigorous climbing roses in existence. In its once-blooming peak in June to July, it produces enormous corymbs of small, 2cm white flowers in such numbers that the whole plant appears smothered in bloom, with a honey-musky fragrance that carries considerable distance. Canes easily exceed 10–15m, capable of scaling large trees and covering entire buildings. Cold hardiness and disease resistance are excellent, and the plant needs almost no attention once established — though its vigor demands careful consideration before planting. Small orange hips follow the flowers in autumn. This rose is strictly for large, unrestricted spaces where its extraordinary energy can be accommodated; it is not suited to confined gardens.
