Developed by Francis Meilland (France) and named in 1945 to commemorate the founding of the United Nations, 'Peace' is widely regarded as the greatest rose of the 20th century. Its enormous blooms — 13–15cm across — display creamy yellow petals elegantly edged in pink, a combination that remains uniquely compelling decades after its introduction. Exceptionally vigorous, disease-resistant, and cold-hardy, it is one of the most forgiving roses for beginners. A World Rose Hall of Fame inductee, it has been planted in gardens across every continent. Pruning above outward-facing buds in winter promotes an open, graceful habit. Rich, well-drained soil and full sun allow the plant to reach its impressive potential of 1.2–1.5m.
